The Open Education Consortium Welcomes New Members (November 2015)

The OE Consortium is pleased to announce the addition of 2 new institutional members.  We extend our warmest welcome to you!

  1. College of Lake CountyCollege of Lake County: is a comprehensive community college offering a wide range of academic program choices. Their major program areas include credit programs to prepare students for transfer or career entry, GED and adult basic education, non-credit offerings for personal or career development, and contract training and specialized services for businesses. They currently have 232 full-time faculty and 869 adjunct faculty. Their current student headcount as of fall 2015 is 12,871. Located in Grayslake, Illinois, with additional campuses in Waukegan, IL and Vernon Hills, IL. Lake County is in the northeast corner of Illinois, between Milwaukee and Chicago.
  2. UMassUMass Dartmouth: is part of the UMass system (the smallest campus after the Medical School). Historically, the university has served primarily residents of Massachusetts’ South Coast. However, nowadays there are students from all over the US and the world. While the university values highly its undergraduate education, it has also been making efforts to raise its research profile. Their mission statement reads: UMass Dartmouth distinguishes itself as a vibrant, public research university dedicated to engaged learning and innovative research resulting in personal and lifelong student success. The University serves as an intellectual catalyst for economic, social, and cultural transformation on a global, national, and regional scale.

    UMass Dartmouth has been making a concerted effort to encourage the use of open education resources. In the past year, they developed a “Guide to OER” through which Librarians are available to help faculty locate appropriate resources relying on tools such as: “Finding Open Educational Resources“.
