Mike’s role as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning Transformations) oversees the Learning Transformations Unit which provides professional development and support for teaching staff across all modes of learning (digital, blended and mobile) at Swinburne University of Technology. It focuses on the transformations needed in learning technologies and teaching practices to meet student needs and expectations and opportunities available in the digital era.
Mike was Executive Director, Australian Digital Futures Institute at University of Southern Queensland from October 2012 until March 2015. Previous to this, he has a long professional history in higher education in Australia, Canada and Hong Kong and has worked at six different universities.
His research focuses on digital futures, learning spaces, blended learning, learning-orientated assessment, authentic learning, leadership and transformative learning using design-based research. He is a Life Member of Ascilite.
He is also an avid photographer and adventurer and has summited Mts Kilimanjaro, Kenya and Kinabalu.
