Murilo Matos Mendonça is a board member of the OpenCourseWare Consortium representing Brazil. As a member of the board of directors, he provides strategic vision to assist in the growth of the Consortium and the global opencourseware movement as well as insight into ways in which Open Education can help improve educational standards in the Latin American region.

Currently, Mendonça is the International Relations Manager and Open Educational Resources Coordinator at UnisulVirtual, the distance education campus of Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina, Brazil (Unisul).

Mendonça is also a board member of the GUIDE Association (Global Universities in Distance Education). Mendonça was a long-term fellow at The Open University UK in the OLnet Project (Open Learning Network), a project geared towards investigating the impact of OER on users. With the contribution of OCWC board members, he organized the first OCWC Symposium on Open Education in Brazil in October 2012.

Mendonça holds a bachelor’s of science degree in agriculture and a master’s degree in applied linguistics from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) of Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
