Looking to Hire Top Notch Web Architect/Dev for OpenCourseWare Movement

Wanna help change the world through education? Seriously.

The Job

If any of you know a top notch Web Architect/Dev, I am looking to for someone who can help out with the OpenCourseWare Consortium’s Internet initiatives.

While we’re probably looking for contractor help to start with, the ultimate position title (once full time) will be something like “Technical Architect”, and this person will be in charge of all things web in the OCW Consortium world, including the OCW Consortium Portal (porting it to a CRM solution), the OCWC Forum, revamping the OCWC Wiki, potentially a new project called “myOCW” (trying to build a learning community around OCW course content with technology), and many other endeavors.

There will be much traditional web work for starters, but we will quickly be moving into strategic realms once the basic design/integration is implemented.

What Makes This Job So Cool?

As many of you know, the OER/OCW initiatives are all about changing the world through “equalizing access to knowledge” on the Internet.

The opportunities to work with the Hewlett Foundation, along with universities like MIT, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, Open University, Utah State University, Columbia, Yale, Notre Dame, and over a hundred other universities internationally (Japan, China, South Africa, Netherlands, Vietnam, Turkey, etc.), have been nothing short of astounding for me (as I’m sure they will be for this position).

To get a sense for the importance of this initiative, check out the press we have received so far….

Skills/Experience Desired:

  • A deep passion for open education and a strong affinity for open source principles.
  • Very strong web dev skills, including Web Design, HTML, CSS, PhP, mySQL, etc.
  • Direct experience running/managing multiple, substantive web sites
  • Strong understanding of Web 2.0 principles/practices
  • Willingness to travel at least 6 weeks per year (international included)
  • Extremely high levels of dependability, commitment and professionalism.
  • Web Admin experience (Linux, mySQL, SendMail, etc.) a very strong plus.
  • Willingness to relocate to Utah a plus. Possibility of working remotely (wherever you are) depending on the fit.
