1. Who should join the Open Education Consortium (OEC)?
We welcome membership applications from institutions, organizations and corporations around the world that support the mission of the Open Education Consortium and openness in education. Individuals, whether they represent Consortium members or not, are welcome to use and modify materials and resources found on this website, and to participate in webinars and other Consortium activities. Currently, there is no membership category for individuals.
2. What happens once we have submitted our application for OEC Membership?
OEC staff will send you an acknowledgement of receipt of your application. At this point, additional documentation or clarifications may be requested in order to continue with the processing of your application.
Once your membership application has undergone an initial review, it is sent to OEC Membership Committee for consideration. The OEC Membership Committee considers new applications on the 1st and the 15th of every month. The Membership Committee has 7 days to reach a decision, which is then sent to the OEC Consortium Board of Directors for endorsement. The Board of Directors has 5 days to review the Committee’s decision.
3. How long does it take before we are notified about the outcome of our application process?
The entire process (from application submission to notification of outcome of your application process) can take between 2-4 weeks. However, the Membership Committee or the Board of Directors might raise additional questions about your application that would need to be addressed before reaching a final decision. Should this happen, it could extend the time to process your application. Once a decision has been reached by the Membership Committee and endorsed by the Board of Directors a member of OEC staff will be in contact with you about the next steps.
