OCW Consortium Seeks a Web Developer

The OpenCourseWare Consortium seeks a web developer to manage its web presence. The Web Developer will work as part of a small multi-cultural and international team to promote increased access to and improvements in post-secondary education through the use, production and adaptation of OpenCourseWare and open educational resources. Duties will be carried out primarily online. Location of this position is flexible and negotiable.

Key areas of responsibility:
• Management and overall design of main and auxiliary web sites
• Management of user experience for different audiences
• Development of web design, multimedia, graphics
• Online strategies for optimum user experience

Qualifications:
• Experience with front-end customization and user experience;
• Strength in designing effective and intuitive website navigation;
• Creativity;
• Graphics creation experience;
• Experience managing a range of plug-ins;
• Interest in and ability to work with Open Source programs;
• Ability to manage processes at a distance and on-line;
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English, additional language skills desirable;
• Willingness to troubleshoot website problems and actively propose solutions;
• Self-motivated with desire and ability to work independently;
• Desire to be an effective and contributing part of a multi-cultural team;
• Commitment to the ideals of open sharing and open education;
• Skills in back end functionality highly desirable;
• Reliable high-speed internet access is essential.

The Web Developer position will be conducted primarily via the internet, allowing great flexibility regarding location worldwide. Given the virtual nature of the position, reliable internet and communications infrastructure is essential for the performance of regular duties, as is a strong work ethic and the ability to solve problems without direct supervision. This full-time position will require some flexibility in working hours to respond to people in different time zones and to participate in working groups and meetings. Aside from required meetings and events, exact working hours can be flexible. The Consortium currently uses Joomla, Java, WordPress, PHP, Linux, Apache and Python, but we are open to using other effective programs.
