The OER World Map project was initiated in 2015 in order to provide the “most complete and comprehensible picture of the global Open Educational Resources movement”. With the launch of version 1.1 of the platform, the OER World Map is now a “Social Education Management Information System which […] combines elements of a social networking platform, a business information system, a geoinformation system and a library catalogue”. The new version has exciting new features.
The new version includes a redesigned user interface, which provides significantly improved usability of the site. Users are invited to register on the map, create their personal profiles and possibly help with editing of data. For detailed information about the new features, please click here.
The platform includes close to 300 services (e.g. OER repositories), which can be filtered according to country, language, subject, audience and license used. Participating organizations should verify whether their organizational profiles are still up to date or if any institutional OER repositories or other services provided by them are missing on the map.
The OER World Map project is funded by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the North Rhine-Westphalian Library Service Centre in cooperation with Berlin based graph thinking GmbH and under participation of the Open University, UK.
The Hewlett Foundation will continue funding the project until the end of 2018. The proposal for phase IV of the project, which announces multiple new features is available online.
