Personal statement

“Open” courses not only provide go-to, just-in-time training for today’s users, they also have the potential to revolutionize higher education on many levels. With open courses, learners are in control of their education. They can shop, select, and learn without the barriers of traditional education such as admission requirements, class availability, or time constraints. Learners can also learn when and how they choose. With college tuition continuing to increase year over year, open courses are typically free or low cost.

As Director of College at Kaplan University (OC@KU), our mission is all about helping non-traditional students access the resources they need to enhance their lives and careers through education. The college’s unique approach is straightforward: Learners create their own pathways to reaching their goals, using a variety of educational resources from inside and outside Kaplan University. The focus of the OC@KU is to foster an environment of independent and critical thinking, professional competence, and self-reliance.
