Quarterly Membership Meeting – June 2014

The Open Education Consortium quarterly membership meetings provides a venue for members to hear about the Consortium’s and Members’ activities, interact with open education professionals from around the world, discuss topics of common interest and get feedback and input from other members.

The first quarterly meeting was held on June 18th and 19th.

Agenda:

1. Organizational name change

Members of the Consortium’s Board of Directors will discuss the organization’s name change from the OpenCourseWare Consortium to the Open Education Consortium, including the rationale for the change. We invite members to ask questions and talk about any opportunities or challenges that the name change presents for them

2. Open Education Information Center

Staff of the Open Education Consortium will discuss the development of the Open Education Information Center on the Open Education Consortium’s website. We will present some of our ideas, but we also want to hear from members about what would be most useful to you in such a center.

3. Consulting and support for open education

As more governments, institutions and organizations turn towards openness as a way to increase access to education, make improvements in teaching and learning, provide education at large scale, realize efficiencies, innovate and collaborate, there is increased need for expertise to advise on policy implementation, project development, business planning and overall management. The Open Education Consortium has a rich, global network of experts in open education. We will discuss the ways we envision making our expertise available through consulting services and how our members can be involved, including through the development of an Open Education Professional Directory.

4. OpenMOOCs

We will discuss the opportunities for our members to turn their existing OER and OCW into openly licensed MOOCs under the Open Education Consortium’s agreement with edX.

5. Opportunities for member involvement

We will highlight opportunities for members to be involved with the Open Education Consortium’s committees, events and projects, including Open Education Week planning and ideas. The Open Education Consortium is a community of open education professionals, and we welcome your contributions and ideas for how members can tap into our network.

6. Member comments, questions, suggestions.

This is the opportunity for members to talk; to highlight a new project, look for collaborators, discuss trends, opportunities or challenges you see in your work. Please let us know on the form below if you have a specific topic you would like to discuss. Following the the topics requested in advance, we will open the discussion for member comments and interactions as time permits.
