Open Education Consortium Committees are structured around the key priorities of the Consortium. They are formally established, either in the bylaws or by vote of the Board of Directors for a specific purpose, which is indicated in the committee “charge.”
Because committees serve the Board of Directors in an advisory capacity, each committee has not only a chair but also a board liaison, to whom they report their findings and/or recommendations.
Committee members make decisions as a collective group and hold joint responsibility for decisions and actions taken by the committee. Each committee has a mailing list, which is usually the primary method of communication. However, different collaborative web-based tools are provided according to the needs of each committee.

OEC Special Committees are formed annually around specific events. Currently, there are two Special Committees. The Open Education Global Conference Committee is charged with the organization of the annual Open Education Global Conference. The Open Education Week Committee is charged with the organization of the annual Open Education Week.
